Play: Episode 4, the coral question
A class of 9-year-olds is coming at 17:30 and wants to know: is coral a plant, an animal or a rock? Mio calls a reef ecologist who is out on a boat, and you become her science intern for the afternoon.
Works best on a laptop or desktop in Chrome, Edge or Safari, with a keyboard: Space moves on, number keys pick, P does the current step for you, D demonstrates it, F2 turns on presenter mode for a classroom screen. Nothing you do is sent anywhere: progress is saved only in your own browser.

What you will do
- Answer Mio's call and find a friend who is awake, using the time zones on the phone.
- Pack the dive bag, lay a measuring tape along the reef without touching the coral, and take straight-down photos frame by frame.
- Count dots on your photos to estimate how much of the reef is living coral.
- Back at the museum: build the photo frame from a kit, pass a recall check made from your own data, then become a student when the class arrives.
All science in this build is marked Draft. If you are a reef scientist and something looks wrong, please tell us.
